A home for growing independence
The first question is usually “Will I fit in?” The parent’s question is “Will my child be cared for?” This page must answer both.
Residential life at St. Mary’s should combine friendship and freedom with clear routines, adult guidance, study support, safety and regular connection with families.

The first week
Tell the arrival story honestly: room allocation, introductions, belongings, orientation, meals, calls home, homesickness support and the first mentor/house-parent check-in.
What students gain
- Protected independence: Students learn to manage time, belongings, relationships and responsibilities while adults remain available.
- A study community: Supervised study, peer support and access to academic help make consistency easier.
- Friendships across backgrounds: Shared routines and experiences create relationships beyond the classroom.
- Resilience and self-awareness: Students learn to navigate disagreement, setbacks, routines and personal choices.
